Colour of the Year: Marsala

For the past 15 years, Pantone (a corporation that has its own proprietary colour space used in numerous industries) has been releasing Colours of the Year. This year, the colour is Marsala, a wine red with brown undertones.

The colour has been receiving a bit of flak from media, but I personally like it. I think it’s a very versatile shade across genders (unlike 2014’s Radiant Orchid, which can’t be pulled off by everyone). It pairs beautifully with gold, white, ivory, rich indigo, and brighter, orange pinks. It can easily be incorporated into the home as well.

While I don’t own any piece of clothing in Marsala (yet!), I have a bunch of picks from stores. So go ahead, deck yourself out in the Colour of the Year for a fashionable 2015.

marsala skirt

This 9rasa skirt is a great ethnic way to wear the colour. Pair it with an off white full sleeved blouse and layer delicate gold necklaces for a perfect combination.

Incorporate it into your college wardrobe! Marsala is also great on this kurti from W.

If a dress is more your style, try this Marsala-orange contrast dress from Vero Moda with a sparkly gold belt and nude shoes. Enough with the black dresses already.

Wear this wine coloured shirt from Sister’s Point with a pair of cream trousers and a gold statement necklace.

While I don’t need another blazer, this wine coloured one from Forever 21 definitely tempts me. I would wear it with an ivory shirt, black trousers, and gold studded flats.

ATTENTION GUYS: This colour is definitely friendly for males too! These shirts prove it. Wear the full sleeve button down from Wrangler or the t-shirt from U.S. Polo Assn. with a pair of jeans or chinos.

As makeup, Marsala isn’t very difficult to wear. On lips, try Maybelline Super Stay 14 Hr in Enduring Ruby for a fresh take on a statement lip- it’ll definitely stand out in a sea of scarlets. Make the rest of your face understated- neutral eyes and cheeks. Another easy way to incorporate the colour is on your nails- with the Colorbar Plumtastic Quick Finish Nail Lacquer. Short nails work best for dark colours. Wear against a white outfit and sparkly midi rings.

That’s all I have for today. How will you wear Marsala this year? Share in the comments!

I’m absolutely in love with the blazer! Definitely worth a buy for future MUN conferences. (they seem to be the only places I wear blazers.)

    1. Hahah! That’s my excuse too! I built up quite a collection thanks to MUN.
Thank you for stopping by! 🙂
