A Silk for all occasions

I’m a sucker for a good silk sari. While I don’t wear silk saris much, it’s hard to deny how versatile saris are, and how elegant they make you look and feel. So needless to say, I was thrilled when Palam Silks invited me to the unveiling of their Diwali Collection – Light Up 2016.

The collection revolved around bold designs and colours, but retained the artistry of a silk sari. It was targeted at us, the next generation, and had three major innovations, apart from the Diwali Collection itself.

Corset & high neck blouses were a staple through the collection

A double-border (termed “Korvai”) was the concept behind their Double Delights collection. Featuring contrasting colours, these will definitely earn you a second look.

My favourite  was an intriguing border placement to make people look taller; the High Rise collection is made for those who want to look taller in their saris. The model looked absolutely statuesque as she walked down the runway!

And lastly, their cocktail-wear saris (Blend n Trend 2) were a lesson in weave-mixing. The sari had a combination of Kanchi silk, jute silk, cotton and linen on its pallu and blouse. I love this concept because it makes silk more contemporary, while still retaining the tradition of the sari.

I loved the pop of the blouse against this sari.

Here are some more photos from the event + my outfit too (because of course).

ALDO x Moderas

A little over a week ago, I had an opportunity to attend Aldo’s Shoefie Party. You might have seen my Instagram story, I managed to catch their Winter 16-17 collection, and meet with other bloggers, and influencers. That was fun. Thanks for a great evening ALDO, Ritz Magazine & Aruna Krishnan! I needed that break between exams.

I figured this post was long overdue (due to numerous other commitments), but we can consider this as my official reentry to the blog sphere, a revival of sorts. I hope to keep this going. I have radical plans to fit the blog for a new mission. I’m excited to see where this could go, I’d love to have you all tag along on this journey as well.

Of course I had to choose shoes that would make a statement; this party was at ALDO, after all. I went with these Zara beauties.

aldo-shoefie-shoe-party-chennai-2

A “shoefie” as we called it. I went with this clutch primarily because I didn’t have any other small bag.

A quick selfie before the event began.
Pro Tip: If you’re wearing tie-up sandals with pants, make sure the pants are cropped at the ankle so that the tie-up detail is visible.

intro graphic.001Here’s a short overview of the collection (I had to make a graphic). It has lots of shoes that are meant to be worn beyond the Winter Season, in classic styles and neutral colours. Pops of red shone through the store. I spoke to the ALDO Brand representatives as well, who gave us some insight on how the collection will refresh as the months pass. Hint, it’s going to be fashion-forward, and on par with global trends– so keep going back, you don’t want to miss it!

Different shoe styles – sandals, pumps, and tie-up sandals too! – in a range of colours.

Masculine-inspired styles were carried forward through brogues & oxfords, but remain playful in metallic shades. The mini structured bags look so good too!

No such thing as Winter in Chennai anyway; these sandals are definitely worth picking up.

But the best part of the event was unarguably the time I spent with my fellow fashion bloggers from Chennai!

Neither did we stop from walking up to the gorgeous Shriya Saran for a group photo op…

Okay maybe not “a” group photo op.

There’s nothing like uniqueness, and that’s exactly what Vya offers.

shopskipper3-3

Not your run of the mill necklaces & earrings. Each piece is hand-crafted, and usually features one or more seashells, encased against a colourful backing. The metallic finish varies from collection to collection.

shopskipper3-1

shopskipper3-2

I loved these rings that made a subtle statement. An unconventional touch to an otherwise fuss-free outfit.

shopskipper3-4

Vya also offers custom pieces in their range- whether choker, earrings, or rings, you can choose a colour combination & shell setting you like. Mother-of-pearl (seen here) is definitely a beautiful option!

Wearing Mango shirt, Levis, Zara heels. Necklace from Vya.

Now featuring: The Blush Box (with Shopskipper): Part 2

Thanks to a tumultuous past week here, all systems and internet access have taken a hit. Chennai has overflowed with love and humanity, in response to the water, and it just reaffirmed my love for the city. Hopefully, we recover quickly, and rehabilitate effectively.

So in case you missed my previous post I am now an official blogger for Shopskipper. My job will be to feature stores in collaboration with ShopSkipper, and bring you the best of Chennai’s shopping scene— in video form, no less! So be sure to follow their page to see the ShopSkipper edit ft. yours truly. I’m so excited to be a part of their venture!

The second store I am featuring is The Blush Box by Saloni Bermecha.

shopskipper2-7

Contrary to popular belief, I do own a black blazer.

shopskipper2-5

The reason I love this store is because of their selection of delicate jewellery. While I love bold statement necklaces, and
would kill for a rhinestone anything, sometimes you have to strike a balance. They do have statement-making pieces, as well as a selection of clothing.

shopskipper2-4

This necklace for example, has a marble-like stone as a pendant, with a shorter chain layered. It’s different, and eye-catching, without being loud. When you wear formal clothing, sometimes you need to reach for easy-to-wear pieces like this.

shopskipper2-6

This is a fail-proof outfit idea: black blazer, blue jeans, and heels. You could even call it a fashion-girl uniform!

shopskipper2-3

It’s all in the details, sometimes, with outfits. A delicate moonstone ring, and slim gold bracelets make just enough impact without being weighed down by tons of accessories.

shopskipper2-1

Layered with a watch, you have a perfectly executed arm party, without any fuss.

Wearing Mango blouse, H&M blazer, Levis, Zara heels, my own earrings. All other accessories from The Blush Box.

Check out The Blush Box at their StoreFacebook

My video for ShopSkipper will be up very soon. Keep watching this space ~

First up, Anaya Accessories. It is based in Kilpauk, with an Instagram & Facebook page for you to browse their products.

shopskipper-anaya-6

Cool tones such as light blue denim calls for silver accessories– this necklace is bold, and makes a statement. It is one of my favourite ways to jazz up outfits.

shopskipper-anaya-2

Rose gold lovin’! It’s become my favourite metallic shade (despite my face indicating otherwise).

shopskipper-anaya-1

These earrings make an impact, but are not over the top. The perfect balance! The long length adds edge to a simple white blouse & blue jeans outfit.

shopskipper-anaya-5

shopskipper-anaya-4

A clutch which doubles as a chain strap bag– the flower details allow it to double up for western wear too! Classic styling tip: match your bag with your shoes.
